My, my, this summer is flying by!! (Why can't winter go by this fast??--Seriously!!)
Been busy around here keeping up with the mowing, and puttering around in the garden.
Have gotten a few letters from Jared, sent a few as well. Kyle has been working quite a bit and Frolfing. (Frisbee Disc Golfing--Frolf or Frolfing is their term for it.) He joined a league, too. He also joined the Country Club so he can practise golf. (Maybe I will find less and less golf balls in my backyard or pasture now!) ;-) OR hit them with the mower!
Oh, talking about mowers, Sunday I figured I'd better mow some more. So had Patrick sharpen the blade for me. He went to help the neighbors, I managed to hit part of a stump and kill the mower. Sure enough, I'd bent the blade.
I told him to tell the neighbors I needed to borrow their mower now since I'd messed mine up. (Don't think the guy seen the humor in it......) HA HA HA (I was only teasing.....but don't think he thought so!)
So a trip to town and $15 later....the old blade off and the new one on, I was good to go! (With "THE LOOK" from Pat. Ya know, that look that says: Now don't mess THIS one up, too!) I tease him my mess-ups are his job security! :)
I now have at least two roosters in my batch of hens....one tried to crow the other morning. I guess I'd better stop calling them "girls" now! Like they all really care! ;-)
We need to make a bigger chicken tractor, these are outgrowing this smaller one.
We have been rain-free for several days now, good weather for making hay! I'm hoping to get some 'fresh' bales next time I get hay from my hay guy.
Patrick and I picked the last of the neighbors' cherries (with her blessing) the other morning and he made Cherry Jelly while I was at work Monday. Ummmm Ummmm good! He got 8 pints from 1 1/2 gallons of cherries.
I have some Yarrow and Plantain soaking in olive oil for salve making. I need to pick Comfrey, too. I can not find any Chickweed here, so need to go find some. The neighbors' yard used to have plenty in it, but not anymore. (It's a weed-free lawn now.)
Oh, we have been picking Raspberries....the plants are thriving. I got them two summers ago from my mom's old garden (which is now a crop field). I need to get my Rhubarb thinned out....always something to be done!

Mid June Update
Time is getting away from me, so much to do, so little time! Got a call and then a couple of letters from Jared with his mailing address. It was great to hear from him!
My mother in law and I took Kyle up to Lincoln Tuesday to band camp. We have to pick him up late Saturday.
The garden is weedy, but starting to snap out of the rain-induced funk. Even the corn is happier! Its loosing the too-wet-yellow look and is turning green. I did lose my spinach and one carrot patch to hail and rain. I bought some cucumber plants since mine never came up. (Only one plant). Think I'll stick with Ferry Morris seeds from now on, they always do good for me. I do have some other seeds saved, but it's not my specialty. I just get busy and actually forget to save some!
We re-seeded the back yard and I am waiting for it impatiently to grow. We had done the front yard about 6 weeks ago and it looks really good. The front yard got lots of rain, and the back yard is having to do with the sprinkler for water.
The chicks are over half grown now, I have a Buff Orphington that seems to think she is Queen of all. I call her Bitchy, because she rules the roost! They are outgrowing their smaller Chicken Tractor, and we need to build a bigger one. I have to move this one twice a day so they aren't killing all the grass with their activity and "leavings". HA
Dolly is doing well as is Porter[house], he is growing good. Hopefully he'll be ready this fall. I am sending blood in from Dolly to see if she is indeed pregnant or not. The friend who borrowed Giz (the bull) had a cow that had a dead calf on Sunday. He was planning on getting a calf from the dairy, since he or I couldn't think of anyone else who might of had a bummer calf. His kid shows in 4-H and I'm always amazed how well behaved their beefers are.
Jared's cat Tigwee has taken to following me around when I'm home. I know she misses him. Now with Kyle gone this week, she's like a sticker weed stuck to your pants! She has to come sit on the computer desk where the keyboard is when I'm typing. Normally she doesn't get up on stuff, besides like the couch. So I'm cutting her some slack. :-)

Mom and Dad's Birthdays
Mom turned 80 on the 4th and dad 82 on the 6th. They will also celebrate their 63rd Wedding anniversary the end of this month!
My eldest sister decided to throw mom a Birthday Card Party at their church. Another sister helped out with details and here are a few pics.
Over 100 people came, mom was happy, she'd never had a Birthday party before!

Three Little Pigs
Wednesday we had some fun entertainment.....we had 2 1/2" of rain the night before and so me and the neighbors' get a waterhole for a day or two.
So the great nephews decided (with mom's approval) to "go swimming". Patrick called them "The Three Little Pigs". ;-)
Looks like the youngest might be a plumber someday.....HA
Funny thing is, my kids did the same thing at this age. Hard to believe how fast they grow up!
