Updates!

My computer mysteriously won't let me copy my writings on here...I'm thinking something got changed (or I accidentally did it) and can't figure out how to fix it!

Last weeks news: we had 1" of rain, we thankfully got bypassed by some nasty storms in the area. Patrick planted sweet corn, and I have in cucumbers, tomatoes, jalapeno, bell and banana peppers. I have one Habenero that I pulled from last years garden and wintered over in the house. It's liking being out of a pot! (I had two, but had big brother Butch drop the biggest one off at sister Christies' house on his way by a few weeks ago.)

There was an accident involving 4 teenagers and an older lady Friday near our town....three of the kids go to the school here. They didn't stop at a stop sign on a road and hit the older lady.
I was at work ringing up a fellow who was on the volunteer fire department when his pager went off, so I got to hear the 'details'--unsettling to say the least.
Kyle happened to come in the store a few minutes after that (whew!) and I made him call Jared to make sure he was still at Katie's' house. Thankfully he was. (There was no school Friday.)
They had to take them all to the hospital and life-flighted a couple to bigger hospitals. From what I've heard, they'll all make it, time will tell.
So sad....I was 'preacher mom' this weekend telling my kids how important it is to pay attention and wear their seatbelts when they are driving!! Consequences can be scary if not!

Kyle got called into work Friday and Saturday night. I got called into work Saturday for a few hours, too. Jared and Katie went to the movies Sunday night and Patrick has been busy helping B&K finish up moving.

Hopefully things will settle down this week!

A new Month already

3/27 Saturday
The rain forecast came true. This morning already had 3/4 of an inch and its still raining. I forgot to mention the garlic is up in the garden and two rows of onions I never did harvest last year before the frost/freezes came. This is the garlic's second year in the same spot. I think I need to move it? Better do some reading and brush up on garlic! I do not see any signs of the asparagus, rhubarb nor the Lovage. This next week calls for warmer temps so I am hopeful they will peek thru. I saw a small plantain, and comfrey peeking thru the soil but had to look hard for them.

3/28 Sunday
It was bright and sunny today, got up to 58*. Pat and Jared had clean up day at the Blackpowder range, and Kyle and I worked. Pat and I worked on the ruts in the driveway this evening and got some of the water to drain out.
Many of the Day Lillies are an inch or more tall. One of the neighbors stopped by (the lady with goats and the squeaky windmill) to chit chat while we worked. Wondered if she could get some milk (Dolly is dry) and if I'd make her some cottage cheese one of these days.
Another neighbor wants rhubarb--why don't people just plant some?? Its not like they are hard to grow/take care of and they have plenty of room for them. I don't know, maybe it'd mess up the nice lawn or they might have to mow around them? Lots of people around here WANT home-raised food, but don't want to take the effort to grow/preserve it. It's sad actually!

3/29 Monday
It was chilly this morning (33*) but the sun is shining. It was windy, but warm! Dolly has some kind of skin infection, so she is getting treated for that via her feed. (Much better than shots, which she detests!) I was going to call the vet, but called Ann first and e-mailed her pics. I can't count the times she's saved me a vet call! I teasingly call her Dr. Ann! She's a smart cookie! :)

3/30 Tuesday
B&K came over, they did more work to where their new trailerhouse will go. Patrick helped them mark where it will go. Hopefully it will be here next week!
It was warm (high 70's) but windy once again. Dolly is looking better-whew! I planted two grape plants we picked up last week. They are the green ones--Elvira is what it said on the box.
Patrick and I drew blood from Dolly and sent it off to biotracking. Hopefully I get good news of for sure she is preggers! She should be 6 months along and I can not bump a calf. :(

3/31 Wednesday
Was super busy at work today. The sun and warmth felt good--almost 80* today! Weatherman said it wasn't to be as windy, well, he lied! ;) But there is now snow left and things are drying out really good!
Dolly is better, the weepy sores and swelling have gone down. Kyle had youth group and Jared went shooting and exploring. Patrick helped B mark more spots to dig so they can pour concrete.

4/1 Thursday
Low was 58*, sure felt good this morning. In fact, we've had the heater shut off for three days now. But there is a cold front coming with colder temps and rain and of course, wind. Pat went and helped B first thing this morning with the holes for footings for the house. Then they had concrete that was poured in the holes this afternoon.
My mints and rhubarb are coming up, along with a variety of other herbs and flowers. Dolly is looking better!

4/2 Friday
We didn't get any rain, just a bunch of wind. I had today off so we went to town to get supplies. Kyle and Jared each got fitted for their Prom Tux. I cooked a turkey to take to the in-laws for Easter Dinner Saturday (for turkey sandwiches). Pat made 3 dozen deviled eggs, there will be none left as all the Russells' love them!
We splurged and went out for supper at the local Chinese restaurant. A nice treat for all of us!

Here is a picture of the four remaining pups! I tried to get a photo of them in their outside pen, but they move too much! So Patrick had to hold them! They are 9 weeks today and growing fast!
