For Our Troops......

Welcome!

Either you're searching for some information and stumbled across here, or already know me and are interested in what I/we do. :)

The dairy cow doesn’t ask for much, but she asks every day.
People who are creating wealth with a cow either are hardworking and reliable or get that way in a hurry. This is the way it has been for a very long time.
--Joann Grohman (Author of Keeping a Family Cow)

There are three kinds of people in this world:
Those who watch things happen,
Those who Make things happen,
or you can wonder what the hell happened.
--Captain Phil Harris (RIP)

A few of words of wisdom I have come across:

Choose not to just live within your means, but live within your needs.

If you don't want to be responsible for or defend yourself, please don't expect others to do it for you.

(My translation: Buck up and learn some skills!)

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best!

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the AmericanGovernment take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian."--Henry Ford

Small Family Farms need our help when ludicrous charges have come up against them. Maybe someday it could be one of us on this "make an example out of you" chopping block.

Pushing back (via donations, interviews, getting the word out, etc) and standing up for what we believe in will send a clear message that we refuse to just roll over and give up!

When we know what we're fighting for, we fight harder--Sgt . Gary Stein (USMC)

THANK YOU!!!

Long Productive Week

We have more Roses blooming, the Peonies and Iris are blooming as well. It smells wonderful outside right now! (Perfume-y! ha)
Jared made it back to North Carolina Monday just fine. It was sad to see him go, but he *should* be back next month on leave. (It's the Army, they like to change plans!)
Kyle finally got a haircut this week, too. I was calling him Greg Brady again! (From the Brady Bunch TV show years ago.)

The white hen hatched out 9 chicks on Thursday. Only two eggs didn't hatch. There is one bantie in the group. We moved mama and babies to the smaller chicken tractor for now, hoping to make her job easier of protecting them. They are all doing fine. (The turkeys are in the bigger chicken tractor. Maybe it's a poultry tractor??) ;-)

Deb and Galen (known to some as Scrounger) stopped over Friday and Deb brought me some of her homemade soaps and body butters. Ummmm, they smell great and work awesome! We had a nice visit. I'll take Deb some Comfrey when we get up their way. (I more or less go right by their place when I go visit my folks'.)

After they left I went out to cut thistles. It was hot, hardly any breeze and very humid. When I came in to take a break and drink some milk, a gal from the (family) cow board called. I hadn't heard from her in a loooong time, we had a nice chat. (I think the last few times we've talked, its been a hurried "So-n-so's cow is down, I have to go to work. Will you call them and help them until the vet gets there?!!") So it was nice just to 'shoot the breeze'! :)

We had more rain this past week, part of the drylot was a boot-sucking souplot one morning. I need to get a bobcat/tractor in here to scoop some of the mess into a compost pile and put some rock down. It's mostly around the cows' shed where its the worst.

Nessa is 3 weeks old now and milking is going great. I made more cream cheese the other day and was going to make Queso Blanco until I poured the milk into the outside cat's pan. (I had grabbed the wrong milk--or grabbed the wrong container....take your pick! HA)

That's the quick news update for the week! :)

Nessa smelling a thistle and then pestering Peaches the cat--who feels he has to follow me everywhere. (He's a stray someone dumped off last fall.)
