For Our Troops......

Welcome!

Either you're searching for some information and stumbled across here, or already know me and are interested in what I/we do. :)

The dairy cow doesn’t ask for much, but she asks every day.
People who are creating wealth with a cow either are hardworking and reliable or get that way in a hurry. This is the way it has been for a very long time.
--Joann Grohman (Author of Keeping a Family Cow)

There are three kinds of people in this world:
Those who watch things happen,
Those who Make things happen,
or you can wonder what the hell happened.
--Captain Phil Harris (RIP)

A few of words of wisdom I have come across:

Choose not to just live within your means, but live within your needs.

If you don't want to be responsible for or defend yourself, please don't expect others to do it for you.

(My translation: Buck up and learn some skills!)

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best!

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the AmericanGovernment take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian."--Henry Ford

**~*~**Spread the word!**~*~**

Small Family Farms need our help when ludicrous charges have come up against them. Maybe someday it could be one of us on this "make an example out of you" chopping block.

Pushing back (via donations, interviews, getting the word out, etc) and standing up for what we believe in will send a clear message that we refuse to just roll over and give up!

When we know what we're fighting for, we fight harder--Sgt . Gary Stein (USMC)

THANK YOU!!!

Jared's Twenty-two pounds of a very scary gun......its his M-249 SAW.

Guns....Military or not, guns are just a part of life here. Used for good (hunting) and the bad and ugly (protection). I am so very thankful we have not had to use the "protection" on humans--only pesky critters!

I am reminded of this as scopes and modification/parts for various guns have been trickling in via UPS, Fed-Ex and USPS the past couple of weeks. Jared places orders, things ship and arrive here for him. Good thing Patrick knows what is what, and what goes where....I'd be lost! I'll stick to my gardening, canning and critters--thank you very much! ;-)

Today I get a phone call from the Army--an updated automated call (I don't remember getting one before) checking their family contact phone numbers. It ended with: "Thank You from White Devil Six!" I guess its for an emergency situations/updates....kind of weird it came today, as Jared leaves NC this evening for Ft. Polk LA for a few weeks of training. (Josh he's close to you!!) :) Jared keeps telling me "they are going to Play Haji" (sp). Anyone know what it is?? (Clueless mom here!) All I understand is: Some newer dudes need training, and Jareds' Platoon/Battalion are the bad guys. (I forgot to ask how many are going). Not sure if they are "playing" out in the woods, or what. If Jared knows, he really isn't saying much.....phone calls/contact will be spotty over the next few weeks. Argh-from a Mom's point of view!!

Kyle's golf stint (I think) is expensive; his Mom and Dad IOU is getting larger! ;-) But I'd rather him being doing that then nothing and/or getting into trouble, so I'm not really complaining. He's a good kid and isn't afraid of work, which I am grateful for. He and a few others go for their ASVAB (military) re-test next Monday. I don't think they took it very seriously last time--low scores--hence the re-test!

Patrick has been working on one of bathrooms (we only have two--not like we live in a mansion with several!), finally we are getting it done. What we thought leaked, well, we were wrong when Pat took the toilet off, it was the toilet seal/seat that had a small leak. I'm not being picky on anything, I just want it done. We have some leftover linoleum that is off-white, what is in there is dark brown. (Let the cringing begin! HA HA HA) I'd rather get it fixed and worry about the 'color scheme' later. Did I ever mention I'm function over form? :) (It'll give guests something to talk about--a multi colored floor!)

We've gotten some rain the past two days...the weather was holding decently nice. Not sure how much snow/ice we will get, they keep changing the prediction. Time will tell when we wake up in the morning to see what damage is done (or none). I got another gal to work for me today, partly due to the weather, partly due to the bathroom project that keeps hitting snags. (It is cold under the house!!) Jared would be perfect for this project--his wiry small frame could fit better in places than any of the rest of us! (Maybe I ought to go round up one of the great-nephews next door....heh heh-tee hee!) ;-)
